Besides a beneficial,
relaxing holiday, wouldn't you like to take a trip back into history
and culture? In this case the Isola del Sole is the right place
to do it: from the ancient basilicas of Campo dei Patriarchi, that
are 1400 years old, to the bas reliefs of the Museo Lapidario and
the Roman mosaics in Piazza Biagio Marin.
Through the
Venetian style narrow paths and small squares, each walk in the
historical centre of Grado is a plunge into a truly unique atmosphere.
In fact, time seems to stand still and each corner has its own special
story to tell. But the whole town of Grado has a special style,
made of tranquillity and wellbeing. You can, in fact, say that the
Isola del Sole is a huge pedestrian island, far away from the traffic
and daily chaos. And even in the more modern areas, greenery is
an integral part of the scenery.

And just a few
kilometres away there is Aquileia: one of the most important towns
of the Roman Empire.
After the fall
of the Roman Empire, Aquileia became an important Patriarchy for
more than a thousand years: from 699 to 1751. The patriarchal basilica
houses one of the biggest and most antique western mosaics decorated
with scenes of the sea, while the Museo Paleocristiano (Early Christian
Museum) conserves a heritage of frescoes, mosaics and reliefs of
enormous interest. Aquileia is still an important place for religion
besides being a centre for conventions and historical, artistic
and cultural events.

| Sponsored by
the WWF, the Grado lagoon and its green inland can be visited and
explored with any means: by boat, on a rubber dinghy or even on the
saddle of a mountain bike. Significant repopulating programmes are
underway in the protected Valle Cavanata of some rare species like,
for instance, the wild goose and the royal swan. |

But
all over the lagoon, in amongst the reeds and on the large islands
with the typical fishermen's "casoni", you can come up
against and observe many species of birds: an unforgettable experience.
Here the
best of fresh Adriatic fish is transformed into exquisite meals.
